| October 31, 2007, the pups are 5 weeks old. I extended the weaning box, it is now 5' by 12' and I'm teaching the pups that theirs a place to sleep, a place to eat and a place to poop. They already have the hang of it....no more poopers in the whelping box, they are all doing their poopers in weaning pen, half of them are pottying in the designated spot, the others are trying but they haven't got all the way to the designated spot yet, but they will :) This is import to teach them now. The picture above to the left is the whelping box...the area in front is the weaning pen play area...the pack of the weaning pen is sectioned off the left half is the designated poopers spot and to the right is where they eat. November 6, 2007, the pups are 6 weeks old. Last week the pups got their 1st puppy shots and were wormed, they had their first visitors. They were introduced to sterilized bones, tugs, the LAUNDRY BOTTLE filled with a bit of gravel, AND THE CRATE, I hope all our people continue with the crate training and use a crate when traveling in the car. My personal choice between crate, seat belt, or barrier in a vehicle is a crate. I choose a crate because in case in an emergency or accident it is safer for the dog to be removed in a crate. If the dog is in a seat belt or behind a barrier additional injury can be caused picking them up to get them out of the vehicle. Also, emergency personal and police are much more willing to move a dog in a crate because less risk is imposed upon themselves from a freighted injured dog being approached by strangers. It is always helpful to attach a card to the crate with emergency contact and vet information. November 25, 2007, The puppies have been enjoying going outside and play time with Mom. They love going out and having that special time. This week we'll put a little collar on the pups and let them drag around a small lead that training will get them used to a collar and having a lead on them. |
